This isn't fair. Why does Nightmare get a Luna to hug and I don't?
Nothing suss is going on here. I'm not implying or suggesting anything. Anything you think they have done or will do is exactly that: what
you think. I just drew the two ponies sleeping, with one hugging the other.
Since a number of comments have been made regarding this,
this image is a top-down view. It is not a side view. They are not standing.
I assume they clean off their makeup before going to sleep. Admittedly, I'm assuming that it is makeup in the first place. (Maybe Celestia uses eyeliner instead of eyeshadow?) Wearing armour and accessories while sleeping makes no sense to me either.
Given their manes and tails 'flow' all over the place, what's it like when they sleep? For Luna, I took my previous idea that she ties up her mane and tail to keep it under control. Nightmare's mane and tail seem to phase out of nowhere and since Nightmare can control it, you could suggest it just disappears when she's asleep. Instead, I decided to make it look like she's turned her mane and tail off, for lack of a better phrase. Without her actively controlling them, they settle down. The result however is not quite as I'd hoped.
Additional Files: Normal manes/tails version.

The Nightmare Moon and Princess Luna characters and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic are the property of Lauren Faust and/or Hasbro and/or others. Thanks to NightmareMoonS and Skylark-Torch for feedback while I was creating this.
I do like the idea of giving them different hair styles but for me, hair is what makes a given character more recognizable. We're dealing with an oligarch and a major villian. Both are very poweful. I find their large hair to suggest that they are very powerful as it makes them look bigger. The mane and tail styles seem to go best with milder sorts of characters. The styles for NMM feels waay too out of character for me.
Sometimes I look back at my older works and think that I have been silly not paying enough to characterization of a character, and I think its what woulf benefit this piece the most. You're on to something, but I feel that the characterization is a bit off and could use extra background work to more intuitively know what's going on. Maybe just an addition of pillows will do.
WELL DONE SIGMA Great job you done there good luck
and also merry chrismas sorry i said it early
